The Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) STEM Conference is held annually to recognize the contributions of individuals who are innovators and trailblazers in their professional careers related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). For 38 years, the BEYA STEM awards have continued to provide employers throughout the country with the opportunity to voice the accomplishments of minorities in STEM.
The Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award is part of BEYA’s Outstanding Achievement Award category, and recognizes minority men and women who are actively creating new paths for others in science, research, technology and development. Some of these individuals are experienced executives who continuously seek innovative products or lines of thought, while others are breaking new ground at the midpoint of their careers or are recent graduates who show pioneering promise. Regardless of their career point, recipients of this award distinguish themselves by continuously setting their sights higher while striving to innovate and open doors for others.
Electric Boat (EB) is proud to announce that Tolulope Fayanjuola is one of BEYA’s 2024 Science Spectrum Trailblazers. In this brief video, Tolulope shares what winning this award means to her, and why this recognition is significant to both her and EB.
Tolulope began her career at EB in 2007 as a software engineer. During her tenure, she has brought great enterprise perspective, technical skills, attention to detail and enthusiasm to a variety of roles. Tolulope has been recognized for her contributions before, and is a former recipient of BEYA’s Modern Day Technology Leader Award. She has held multiple positions at EB, including engineer design lead and operations supervisor through the Career Development Program. These differing positions within the enterprise has given her a full view of the scope of our business, and Tolulope has gained valuable knowledge and insight that has made her a sought-after resource with a wealth of knowledge. These attributes make her an asset to not only EB, but all those she mentors. Tolulope is a graduate of EB’s Future Leader Group (FLG) 10, and is the interim president of EB’s Black Engagement Council (BEC). She is a member of EB’s employee resource group (ERG) ForWARD (For Women’s Advancement, Recognition and Development), and a member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
The BEYA Technology Recognition Ceremony is taking place on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, MD, where Tolulope and other BEYA Outstanding Achievement Award winners will be recognized for their continuous hard work and success. General Dynamics (GD) will hold a separate ceremonial dinner on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum to personally recognize winners from GD business units.
