We are proud to recognize a major workforce milestone with the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance (SENEDIA), one of Electric Boat’s key training and workforce development partners.
At an event on July 1, 2026, held at the Westerly Education Center, SENEDIA celebrated the 10,000th graduate to complete the New England Submarine Shipbuilding Partnership—a regional initiative that prepares people for high‑skill, high‑paying careers in submarine manufacturing.
A distinguished group of speakers joined the celebration, including:
- Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee
- Congressman Joe Courtney
- Vice Admiral Robert Gaucher, Director Submarine Programs
- Dr. Greg Ebner, Assistant Commissioner, RI Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner
- Tim Fox, Director of Operations, SENEDIA
VADM Gaucher highlighted how essential this workforce is to national defense, and the tremendous opportunities available in the submarine industrial base for decades to come.
Electric Boat alone is hiring 8,000 new shipbuilders this year, many from this pipeline program, who will now have career opportunities for the foreseeable future.
Over the last five years, SENEDIA and EB have facilitated more than $100 million in investments for this program, spanning 14 trades at eight training institutions, resulting in an impressive 94% completion rate.
This 10,000‑graduate milestone would not have been possible without the outstanding work of training partners across Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine, and the oversight and guidance of the Submarine Industrial Base (SIB) Program Office.
With 27 active programs now training more than 3,500 people each year, these regional partnerships are building a stronger, more capable maritime workforce than ever.
