Tomorrow, November 11, is Veterans Day, a day when we unite to honor our service members, past and present, remember their achievements and thank them for their service.
We have returned to our longstanding tradition and are holding annual Veterans Day observance ceremonies today outside at the Groton shipyard and Quonset Point facility, with employees from each shift gathering together. (For the sake of safety, please make your best effort to maintain a social distance of at least six feet from your colleagues.)
To those who have worn the cloth of our nation, thank you, for putting your country ahead of your personal ambitions and for putting your life on hold in the cause of serving something larger. As a member of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, you have served with a military power that has done more good, shown greater courage, liberated more people and upheld higher standards of decency than any other in the world.
Every Electric Boat employee, veteran and non-veteran alike, serves a larger purpose. America’s submarine builders give to our nation in a most unique way. This small group ensures the cause of freedom for more than 330 million Americans and countless others around the globe.
You serve our country by coming to work each day and doing your part to produce the most amazing, technological machines. We know the dangers our sailors face as they perform their undersea missions, operating in an environment that could not be more hostile to human life. You give our warfighters an incredible tool that keeps them safe and equips them with an unfair advantage. This, the ability to win every fight today, ensures peace for tomorrow and pride in knowing successive generations of Americans will enjoy the freedoms we hold dear.
We owe an eternal debt to all service members for answering the call of duty in the name of liberty and peace. Thank you to our veterans, their families and for honoring those who have served today and every day.
