Electric Boat recognizes and appreciates that employees participate in discussions and debates on social media. While the company respects each individual’s right to free speech, when that speech damages the work environment, or has a negative impact on our company’s reputation or ability to do business, employees need to be aware that there could be consequences associated with their behavior.
As President Kevin Graney recently explained, Electric Boat does not tolerate hate speech, threats of violence or other similar harassment of any kind. When concerns are reported to EB management, they are thoroughly investigated and addressed as appropriate.
Electric Boat’s established policy with regard to harassment is very clear. It states that:
EB prohibits statements, actions, and behaviors that denigrate, deride, disparage, or show hostility or aversion toward an individual or group because of race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, marital status, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, transgender status, military service, or protected status. Such statements, actions, and behaviors are contrary to EB’s expectations and its efforts to attract and maintain a diverse workforce. Offenders who are EB employees will be subject to discipline, up to and including discharge, even if the offending conduct does not constitute prohibited harassment.
It is important to note that Electric Boat’s dealings with employees in these and other investigations are never made public. These are considered private personnel matters.
