Discover Emergent Technologies to Enhance the Capabilities of Tomorrow – DETECT Challenge
Provide a Wild Idea that Would Increase Submarine Relevance by Decreasing Cost or Increasing Future Capability
The DETECT Challenge is an opportunity for the EB community to submit solutions for a variety of different topics of interest to Electric Boat. Participants in the DETECT Challenge will have the opportunity to help Electric Boat continue to deliver the advantage that protects our Sailors, our Families, and our Freedom.
This year there will be two different challenges for DETECT:
Challenge #1: OPTIMIZING SUBMARINE DESIGN FOR THE CREW – What technologies or design features might be incorporated into the design to reduce crew size and the work load on the crew? How would you reduce shock loads on the crew and/or improve the ability of the crew to respond to casualties? How could you improve environmental conditions for the crew?
Challenge #2: MODULARITY OF THE FUTURE – What does modular mean to you? What components or systems might benefit from being modular? What shipyard construction activities might likewise become modular? How would you design and construct the modular deck of the future? How do we become more modular without growing the size of the modules? How do we make through services more compatible with modular construction?
The top three submissions from each challenge will compete for the grand prize of a funded research project sponsored by the Concept Formulation (CONFORM) team.
Submissions to the challenge will be accepted through August 6.
For more information about this exciting opportunity, visit the Technical Excellence Week DETECT page on Homeport (https://homeport.ecms.gdeb.com/designandengineering/techexcellenceweek/Pages/Detect.aspx) or contact EBDETECTSubmission@gdeb.com.
*No shop order provided: All aspects of responding to the DETECT Challenge must be completed on your own time.*
