Holiday Turkey distribution is a way for the EB community to kick off the holiday season together, and for management to personally thank employees for their hard work and contributions to our mission. Due to the pandemic, we’ve had to postpone many of our annual recognition events, or make these events virtual. Again this year, we have a plan that will keep our annual turkey distribution as close to our “traditional” distribution as possible, and wanted to tell you about how this will work in a way that respects all pandemic precautions.
Turkey Distribution will take place at the following dates and times:
Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021
- King’s Highway | Noon
- Long Hill Rd. | 12:45 p.m.
- SUBASE | 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Groton | 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021
- Groton | 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m.
- Groton | 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- New London | 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Groton | 11:00 p.m. – Midnight
Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021
- North Stonington | Noon
- Shaw’s Cove | Noon
- New London | 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
In Groton and New London, turkeys will be distributed in tents without sides to allow for maximum air flow. When you approach the tent, please have your voucher ready. You will be directed to enter one of several distribution lines. You will then drop your voucher in a bin, pick up your own turkey and exit the tent.
Employees located at King’s Highway, Long Hill Road, SUBASE, Shaw’s Cove and North Stonington should pick up their turkeys at the trucks parked outside the facility.
Bulk pick-ups (any amount you cannot carry on your own) will be accommodated in Groton M Lot on Thursday, Dec. 9, between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. ONLY. Please note that Groton is the only bulk pick-up location. You must present official, hard copy vouchers for the number of turkeys requested.
We have heard from local charities that their needs are especially great this year. Unclaimed turkeys will be donated to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Bank—you may send your voucher for United Way donation to Lisa Trolan, Dept. 605, J88-10. If you want to donate your turkey to another charity, feel free to make your own arrangements.
Some other points to keep in mind:
- You must wear a mask to enter a turkey pickup location; no exceptions.
- If you’re going to be away, you can have a friend, co-worker or supervisor pick up your turkey. But remember – they’ll need your voucher.
- Due to COVID, our volunteers will not be able to gather to assist with bulk loads. Bulk is defined as the number of turkeys you cannot carry from the distribution site on your own. **You must be able to carry your turkeys on your own.**
