2026 American Heart Association Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk Recap
Saturday, October 3, 2026 | UConn Avery Point
The 2026 American Heart Association Eastern Connecticut Heart Walk at UConn Avery Point was nothing short of extraordinary. Under bright autumn skies, 26 incredible Electric Boat teams and 151 walkers came together with passion, purpose, and unstoppable energy to support lifesaving cardiovascular and stroke research.
And what a day it was.Â
To begin the festivities, this year’s Heart Walk Executive Chair, Dr. Derek Stewart, kicked off the event with heartfelt words of gratitude. He thanked all companies, teams, and supporters for their continuous efforts, celebrating that together, our community has already raised over $150,000 in lifesaving funds, with more to come.
One of the most powerful moments of the morning came as our very own Jeffrey Sammataro took the stage as this year’s Survivor Ambassador. As his inspiring personal story was shared by Adria Giordano, Executive Director of the American Heart Association, Connecticut, Sammataro struck the ceremonial Survivor Drum — its steady beat echoing the rhythm of a heartbeat. The sound symbolized resilience, second chances, and the ongoing journeys of survivors everywhere. It was a moment that grounded the crowd in the true mission and purpose of the American Heart Association.
The event was filled with excitement on every front — especially the nail‑biter fundraising race between Electric Boat and Mohegan Sun. Heading into Walk Day, EB trailed by just $4.00. But in classic EB fashion, our teams rallied with heart, unity, and last‑minute generosity. As donations surged in those final hours, Electric Boat took the lead and secured the title of Top Fundraising Company for 2026!

Thanks to the extraordinary commitment of our walkers and supporters, Electric Boat raised an impressive $31,749.71 and the total is still increasing every day.
Our impact didn’t stop there:
Two EB teams ranked among the top five fundraising teams overall.
Three EB walkers placed in the top five individual fundraisers.
These exceptional achievements earned Electric Boat the honor of bringing home the Heart Walk Trophy, which will be engraved with our company name and proudly displayed in the showcase for the next year — a symbol of passion, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to healthier communities.
