For the past three years, the Quonset Point Employees’ Community Services Association (QPECSA) has been a cornerstone supporter of the veteran-owned and operated 501(c)(3) charity Rucks2Pucks, whose mission is to “break the ice on veteran suicide.” Comprised of a group of veterans who share a passion for hockey, Rucks2Pucks provides players with monthly pickup skates and annual tournaments, giving veterans the much-needed comradery and banter they miss from their days in service.
Through the extreme generosity of Quonset Point employee contributions, the QPECSA has helped tremendously in funding these events. “I can personally tell you that the QPECSA is an organization doing wonders for local community outreach,” said Daniel Masood, a 12-year QP employee and founding board member of Rucks2Pucks.
June is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Rucks2Pucks’ sole mission is to fight veteran suicide and reduce the statistic of 22 veterans a day who succumb to their internal battles. Only by the support of our community are we able to provide the outreach to not only end veteran suicide, but also keep the memory of those heroes alive. Thank you to all Quonset Point shipmates who contribute to the QPECSA.
