EB management, employees and contractors gathered at Quonset Point last week to celebrate the topping off of building 10A, QP’s new coatings facility. In construction, topping off is a traditional ceremony where the last steel beam is placed as part of a structure. At the ceremony, the build team was congratulated for meeting safety and quality commitments and for staying on schedule. Before being raised, the final beam was signed by those in attendance.

The facility is being built by AZ Corporation of Stonington, CT, and is scheduled to be completed in July of this year. The new coatings facility will provide new space for blasting and coating activities, supporting the construction of the Virginia Payload Module and the Columbia class.

Building 10A is just one of 16 projects being developed as part of the EB Facilities Master Plan (FMP). Electric Boat will be investing more than $800M at QP as part of the overall $1.8B FMP that also includes a new test and assembly building in Groton, a new ocean transport barge, floating dry-dock, and several other EB capital projects.
