The Metal Trades Council of New London County (MTC) informed Electric Boat that union members overwhelmingly ratified the tentative contract reached last week. The contract’s terms and conditions become effective immediately.
The MTC represents the company’s 2,673 shipyard workers. There were 2,122 votes recorded with more than 85% voting to ratify the contact.
The new, four-year contract provides competitive wages over the next four years through a combination of a signing bonus, four general wage increases and additional increases for skills-based premium pay. It also provides enhancements for all members in a variety of benefits including healthcare, paid time off and retirement benefits.
“We are pleased that the MTC employees ratified this contract offer which is one of the most competitive in our region and for all shipbuilders,” said Elicia Spearman, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. “Our employees are the best in the industry. They work hard and they deserve to be well compensated. We believe that the increases in compensation and the enhancements to the benefits package make this an outstanding contract for our employees and their families that significantly increases their quality of life.”
