A group of EB employees were recently recognized by Jeff Geiger and the rest of the EB Leadership team for their quick response to a medical emergency in their work area.
On the morning of November 26, an EB engineer collapsed at his desk. Jeff Hilton (D440), the individual’s cube-mate, rushed to investigate, quickly realizing the seriousness of the situation. Reacting quickly, Hilton called out for help. It was then that Brendan Malone (D454) joined in an effort to help, phoning the EB fire department and providing them with details on the situation.
Also responding to the call for help was Ruddy Olivo (D440) and Lisa McCabe (D448). Upon their arrival at the scene, they began performing manual CPR until the fire department arrived. The fire department began administering oxygen and using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) machine. Lisa, recently trained on the use of the AED, assisted the EB fireman in using the machine to resuscitate the individual.
As the EB fire department was wheeling the individual to the waiting ambulance, Christine Kong (D440), also a cube-mate of the individual, remembered that he has a pre-existing medical condition and medication allergies. Christine was able to find the specific information on the individual’s cell phone and provide these critical details to the paramedics.
Jeff Hilton, Ruddy Olivo and Christine Kong, each members of Dept. 440, report to Alexander Carr. Brendan Malone (D454) reports to Mark Chmura, and Lisa McCabe (D448) reports to Scott Philipp.
The employees involved demonstrated the ability to act quickly and efficiently. They showed outstanding skill and leadership in a high-pressure situation, doing everything in their power to ensure the safety of a fellow employee.
