Electric Boat successfully completed the Naval Sea Systems Command radiological controls evaluation conducted last week. A team of specialists from Naval Reactors headquarters and the local Naval Reactors Representative Office spent the week examining the company’s most important core competency – our ability to perform naval nuclear work.

The Naval Reactors team inspected work sites and work-in-process and interviewed employees on the job to evaluate the company’s performance to Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program standards.

“Naval Reactors’ thorough evaluation is extremely important to us and helps validate our procedures, processes, training, and quality of the work done by the men and women of Electric Boat,” said EB President Jeff Geiger. “The evaluation team’s assessment was comprehensive and constructive, and we will respond thoughtfully and thoroughly to the improvement opportunities they identified.”

During the outbrief, the Navy reiterated the importance of Virginia-class submarines to our nation’s security. EB shipbuilders’ efforts to produce good-quality ships has never been more important than today. Each person’s efforts now ensure the submarine’s high state of quality and continued availability long after delivery.

“I want everyone involved in the evaluation to know I appreciate your efforts. We continue to maintain a positive reputation in the submarine community thanks to the commitment and dedication you bring to the job every day,” Geiger said.
