We’re just a few weeks away from the deadline for reaching our Employee Incentive Goals for the first half of 2019. Once again, it will depend on a strong finish in June.

While we’re on course to achieve our overall safety, health and wellness goals, we still experienced several serious injuries and near-misses this year. No other goal or priority is more important than safely planning and executing our work. Safety is and always will be our #1 focus.

Safety is a team sport. It’s critical that we join together to recognize hazards in the workplace, speak up if we have a concern and, most importantly, listen to each other. Look at each work assignment with fresh eyes for risks that we may not have seen before, even if we’ve had a successful outcome in the past.

Developing and producing submarines is also a team sport. High first-time quality happens when we understand our work assignments and follow procedures/instructions. If you have a question, ask your supervisor for clarification. When we make mistakes, it’s important to stop and figure out what went wrong, so we can get it right the first time, next time.

We lost some ground on the program cost goals in May, putting that overall incentive at risk. If our June performance is more aligned with the February-to-April actual, we will achieve the goal. Similarly, with the key event goals—May was less efficient, but achievement is within our capability if the June performance is strong.

Thank you for the work you do every day to deliver submarines for our nation’s defense. By working together, we can ensure that every employee at Electric Boat goes home proud of their contribution and, most importantly, safe and in the same condition they came to work.
