On Saturday, May 4, the Electric Boat Employees’ Community Services Association (EBECSA) is holding their annual United Way Day of Caring community service event at Coogan Farm in Mystic. Electric Boat employees are invited to volunteer, and are encouraged to bring friends and family members; the more hands, the better!
Coogan Farm is home to the Giving Garden, which grows produce for donation to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Bank, feeding thousands of individuals in need throughout New London County. This will be the EBECSA’s fourth year organizing a United Way Day of Caring event at the farm. “The opportunity to volunteer at a farm that feeds the community gives me joy in knowing that our local community cares,” said Kimberly Conderino, EB employee and United Way Day of Caring volunteer. “The best part is getting to know your co-workers and their families while sharing the tasks available during the day. Everyone should have the opportunity to share their time.”
United Way Day of Caring volunteers will be doing planting and other outdoor projects, and should wear sturdy shoes and have gardening gloves handy. While there will be some supplies available for use, any tools one can bring, such as rakes, shovels and wheelbarrows, would be greatly appreciated. RSVP is not required, but is preferred, as it will help the EBECSA with planning and communicating weather updates or any changes in schedule if necessary.
To show their appreciation for any time you have to give, the EBECSA will provide a free Live United t-shirt and community service certificate for those who volunteer their time. Any questions about the upcoming Day of Caring event should be directed to Kim Deschamps at kdescham@gdeb.com.
