Electric Boat broke ground Wednesday on a new warehouse that will support shipbuilding operations in Groton and Quonset Point.

The 480,000‑square‑foot facility, located at 45 Frontage Road in North Stonington, will streamline how material moves across different work sites. Electric Boat purchased the 55‑acre property from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation in 2025.

The project is a key part of Electric Boat’s strategy to relocate support operations off the main Groton campus, ensuring that every inch of the waterfront can be dedicated to submarine production.

“This is a big part of that strategy, freeing up the room for shipbuilders and the direct supporting functions to be able to keep pace with the growing demands of submarine production for the U.S. Navy,” said Beth Rafferty, Vice President of Facilities.

“By centralizing key material flows, reducing congestion at our existing sites and integrating modern systems, this warehouse strengthens the backbone of our operations,” said Ken Jeanos, Vice President of Materials and Chief Supply Chain Officer.

Electric Boat’s initial plan is to staff the facility with 40 to 50 employees on first shift once operations begin.

The warehouse is scheduled for completion in October 2027.
