From the desk of Will Lennon…
Late last week, following a review by Naval Reactors, we received a letter from Admiral Caldwell, Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, extending Electric Boat’s license to handle nuclear material and perform nuclear work through June 30, 2020. This is a significant achievement which is the result of hard work and focus across the organization.
In May, Naval Reactors (NR) visited Electric Boat for a scheduled review of EB’s nuclear operations. After their evaluation, the team voiced concerns with declining discipline to standards for execution of nuclear work.
We took this feedback very seriously and immediately took action. We examined our processes and procedures, and looked for improvements. We talked to hundreds of employees across the organization to obtain candid feedback on how we work together, and more importantly, find out how we could improve our adherence to standards. An important outcome of this process has been the development and adoption of our Core Values:
Value Each Other
Behave With Integrity and Purpose
Commit to Excellence
By now, you should have heard from your leadership about these new Core Values and had a chance to think about how your team can bring these values into your work every day. There is still more work to be done, but we are already seeing evidence of positive momentum. Please continue to visit the Core Values SharePoint site to share your ideas and learn about how your colleagues are living the Core Values.
Thank you for all you do every day.
Will Lennon,
Vice President of Quality and Radiological Controls
