During June, 11 Electric Boat sites promoted men’s health and raised money for the American Cancer Society through a variety of activities, including a chili cook-off in New London. First-place winner Dick Davis (D453) perfected his recipe (see below) over the years when he had a house full of hungry kids to feed. Kris Kelley (D201) and Alonzo Combs (D330), who were named second- and third-place winners, respectively, don’t follow a specific recipe but rather work from memory and taste. Alonzo does share that his chili has red and black beans, red onions, red and green peppers, secret chili seasonings, tomato paste, diced tomatoes, ground beef, and garlic. There were a total of 24 chili entries.
