A Message from Beth Rafferty: Parking and Transportation Schedule Update
Last weekend’s snowstorm exacerbated our parking challenges in Groton. During this massive winter storm, the least impactful option for snow removal from the shipyard and adjacent parking lots was to the M Lot. Unfortunately, this has taken away desperately needed parking spots. We have been investigating options to mitigate the impact of this snow but unfortunately none are quick fixes.
We are in active discussion to lease additional parking spots in close vicinity to the Groton shipyard. The timeline for this potential expansion is unclear, but we are working to accelerate the schedule to the maximum extent possible. We will communicate more on this as details become firm.
To help address the challenges we face today, starting Monday, February 2, 2026, the following parking changes will go into effect:
- Employees who work in New London will be required to park on the west side of the river and transportation will no longer be provided from the M Lot to the New London facility.
- On January 5, 2026, we announced the addition of 200 parking spaces at the Crystal Mall with the ability to increase if necessary.
- Additional buses will be added to pick up Groton-based employees at 0550 AM and drop them off at B221 at 0615 AM or B605/J Lot at 0620 AM. Please refer to the revised transportation schedule for return trip information.
- Buses will run from the Mall to New London on a loop roughly every 25 minutes starting at 0700 AM based on the below revised transportation schedule.
Safety is our number-one concern. Employees who park in the M Lot should use the shuttle instead of walking down Poquonnock Road. Rainville Avenue is not an approved walking route. Additional buses will be added to the route from M Lot to B221 running every 10-15 minutes on a loop.
Finally, we are gathering data to assess how many employees would take the train to New London and require a ride to the New London Facility. We are prepared to add an additional stop to our route if we have enough interested employees. Please email Lucas Marland, Sr. Manager of Logistics if this option supports your needs.
We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause for some of our employees. We appreciate the feedback we have received and continue to strive to accommodate the largest population of employees we can with convenient transportation options.
Please share this information with employees who do not have access to a GDEB email.
