The Hispanic Shipbuilders Association (HSA), Electric Boat Management Association (EBMA), Black Engineering Council (BEC), Women in Defense (WID), and the Electric Boat Employees’ Community Services Association (EBECSA) have teamed up to bring a Virtual Food Drive event to Electric Boat in support of the Hispanic Alliance of Southeastern CT and the community they support.
The food drive began on Monday, June 29, and will continue through July 10. Electric Boat employees can participate by dropping nonperishable food items in the EBECSA collection boxes located throughout EB’s Groton and New London facilities. Some examples of nonperishable food items that are needed include peanut butter, pasta sauce, rice, beans, baby food, coffee and more. Employees can also place essential items in the donation bins, such as gloves, toilet paper and cleaning products, which will be packed and assembled by volunteers. If a donation box is full, please contact Ely Davis-Murphy at 7-3422.
Those who don’t have access to a donation box, or who would like to make a monetary donation directly to the food drive, can do so virtually through the Hispanic Alliance website.
As the community struggles with the hardships brought on by COVID-19, please consider taking this opportunity to lend a helping hand. With many of us spending the majority of time at home, aside from work, now is the perfect time to clean out our pantries and cupboards to give what we don’t need to someone who does.
