    • Bear Hands Brewing Company is a small brewery in Putnam, CT. They opened their doors six weeks prior to small businesses being shut down due to COVID-19.   • Compassion for Cats of NL County – 275 S Burnham Hwy., Lisbon CT 06351
    • Compassion for Cats of New London County is a no-kill cat shelter located in Lisbon, CT. The shelter is a 501c3 organization dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned, abused and neglected animals, getting them the necessary medical care and adopting them into responsible, loving homes. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shelter is not receiving many donations and is unable to hold fundraisers due to restrictions. They are in need of funds for vet bills, food and litter. There are about 70 cats and kittens currently in the shelter with more on the way. Kitten season is right around the corner, and without the proper funds, the shelter will not be able to help.  If you would like to make a donation, you can call the shelter at 860-886-5085 to discuss how you can do so. Franklin’s has a HUGE selection of jigsaw puzzles and family games as well. Their famous fudge will be available the minute they reopen.   • Safe Futures 16 Jay St., New London, CT 06320
    •  Safe Futures is doing all they can to keep victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and trafficking safe and healthy in their emergency shelter, transitional and residential living programs. Right now, these spaces are very full, because this is a particularly dangerous time for victims forced to stay at close quarters  due to COVID – often all alone – with their abuser. If you are in need at this time, please note the following:
    • Safe Future’s 24/7 confidential crisis hotline remains staffed and is in full operation: (860)701-6001
    • Safe Future’s emergency shelter is staffed and has remained open. With the emergency shelter now at full capacity, Safe Futures will work to locate and pay for safe hotel rooms for victims, as well as provide transportation, food and all basic needs.
    • Survivors are safe in Safe Future’s transitional living apartments – comprehensive health safety protocols are in place.
    • Safe Futures is still taking emergency walk-in clients at their New London headquarters and have set up counseling sessions by phone for clients.
    • Safe Future’s court advocates continue to work in court on arraignments and drafting restraining orders, as well as using electronic filing through phone and email when necessary.
    • Safe Futures has been able to continue these vital, life-saving measures because of the generosity of donors. If you would like to donate to Safe Futures, you can do so on their website: www.safefuturesct.org.
    • Please note: At this time when it can be difficult for victims to reach out themselves – if you think you know someone stuck in an unsafe home, please remember that it’s ok to ask “are you ok?” and to perhaps create a safe opportunity to pass on the  24/7 confidential crisis line number: 860-701-6001.
  • Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Bank 374 Broad Street, New London, CT 06320
    • The Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Bank distributed more than 2 million meals and snacks through 76 distribution sites last year. As of now, the top items needed are cereal, tuna, peanut butter, rice and soup. Food donations can be made right at the EB gates in the white wood boxes.
  • The Arc Eastern Connecticut 125 Sachem St., Norwich, CT 06360
    • The Arc Eastern Connecticut is a non-profit organization whose mission is to partner with people living with an intellectual or developmental disability for EQUAL participation and inclusion in the communities of Eastern Connecticut. The Arc serves over 800 people of all ages and offers advocacy, employment opportunities, in-home support, life skills training, recreation, supported residences and person-centered, community based services.
    • The Arc is in need of  iPads and headphones with 3.5 mm jacks, which clients and team members are using to stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • The Arc can also use donations of puzzles, games, crafts and gardening supplies for use in the agency’s 23 residential homes.
    • Volunteer performers are wanted to give an outdoor show to residents.

  • Covenant Shelter of New London  42 Jay St., New London, CT 06320
    • The mission of the Covenant Shelter of New London is to provide emergency shelter, with the goal of obtaining permanent, stable housing for those in need.
    • The shelter is in need of donations of paper products, disposable utensils and containers, and other food service items. This will allow the shelter to continue serving fully cooked meals to older and medically compromised clients who have been moved from the shelter to hotels to reduce the risk of virus transmission.
    •  Donations may be delivered to the office at 42 Jay St. in New London.
  • Groton Senior Center 102 Newtown Rd., Groton, CT 06340
    • The Groton Senior Center is in need of donations of paper products and cleaning supplies to help seniors sanitize their home spaces. Items can be dropped off at 102 Newtown Road from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Ledyard Citizens Helping Animals in Need (C.H.A.I.N)
    • C.H.A.I.N’s mission is to be a community resource which supports Ledyard animal control in its initiatives to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals in Ledyard and Gales Ferry, CT.
    • C.H.A.I.N is looking for donations of 3- to 5-pound bags of dry dog food, canned dog food, dog treats and gift cards to stores that sell pet food.
    • Monetary donations can be made at paypal.me/ledyardchain.
    • C.H.A.I.N. doesn’t have a dedicated building, so donors can call the President, Cindy Eilenberger, at (860) 287-3504 to coordinate a contactless donation pickup or delivery.
  • Mother’s Retreat 542 Long Hill Rd., Groton, CT 06340
    • Mother’s Retreat is a residential substance abuse program for women . Women can be self-referred, referred by community providers or referred by state agencies such as DCF and DOC.
    • Mother’s Retreat is currently accepting donations of baby items such as diapers, wipes, clothing, toys, linens and furniture to help several clients who will be giving birth in the next few months.
    • The agency is also accepting clothing and activities for children under age 5, art and craft supplies, hygiene products for women, and gardening supplies for all ages.

The Coronavirus has caused an increase in clients seeking assistance with veterinary care. Additionally, because of the virus, Friends of Animals in Need have also been unable to hold fundraisers to enable them to continue with their mission.
